In Bangladesh, remarkable meso-scale cloud systems develop in the pre-monsoon season. They cause severe disasters due to tornado, strong gust and rain. In 2004, severe tornado attacked Mymensingh district on 14 April. On 23 May, strong meso-scale system develop over the country causing two vessels go down with strong wind. In 2000, the radar system of Bangladesh Meteorological Department at Dhaka is replaced and now digital radar data is available. Furthermore, in 2004 spring, we installed an AWS system in Dhaka city. In the present study, we show some general characteristics of several meso-scale cloud systems obtained by the radar and AWS system. The meso-scale system developed on 14 April with tornadoes has elliptical shape with size of several tens of kilometers. Unfortunately, this system does not pass the Dhaka AWS system. That developed on 25 May has rather larger size. It is composed of two parts; one is a strong convective rain band with size of several hundred kilometers and the other is stratiform system. The data of AWS in Dhaka exchibits some characteristics of this convective system. The pressure increases around the convective rainband. Suddenly the temperature falls and the wind direction changes quickly to northwesterly. We will show characteristics of some other convective systems that developed over the Bangladesh in this year.
