Numerical simulation of MJO over the Maritime Continent

Takehiko SATOMURA (1)

It is recognized that MJO plays an important role in the onset of Asian monsoon and has strong relation with intraseasonal variation in rather higher latitude area of the SE and the South Asia. This study focuses on an unique behavior of MJO around the Maritime Continent that MJO is redirected to the northward and/or the southward and sometimes weakened. The tool of the study is a high-reolution non-hydrostatic atmospheric regional model whose domain covers the whole Maritime Continent and surrounding regions. The integration time covers a full lifetime of MJO. The model has multiple domains with two-way nesting and is initialized by the NCEP/DOE AMIP-II Reanalysis with 2.5 degrees and 4 times per day interval and the weekly OI sea surface temperature analysis on a one-degree grid. Preliminary results on the behavior of MJO in the model will be discussed.
