An Overview of Regional Climate Modeling for East-Asian Monsoon System

Yuqing Wang (1)

In this talk, the application of regional climate models (RCMs) to the study of East-Asian monsoon system will be reviewed, including the simulation of extreme precipitation events (draughts/floods) in Meiyu/Baiu season, assessment of possible impacts of land-use change and global warming on East-Asian summer monsoon, and the study of physical processes in the monsoon system. The latest developments includes the applications of RCMs to the seasonal prediction of East-Asian monsoon rainfall, the study of regional paleoclimate and the impact of climate change on extreme climate events in the East-Asian monsoon region. Several directions that the regional climate modeling community could contribute to both the monsoon studies and the global climate modeling of monsoon systems in general will be also discussed.
