Based on successful experience since 1980s, we are planning new collaborative observations between Indonesia and Japan in coming ten years in order to break through problems concerning climate and atmosphere dynamics in the Indonesian maritime continent region. A super statbeen has been constructed at Kototabang, West Sumatera with using rawinsondes, GPS sounding, wind profilers, meteorological radars, isotope analysis and surface meteorological instrument, and a historical database of whole Indonesian climate has been initiated. In addition to them, we will try to construct a network of stations, a regional numerical model and a system for capacity building in this region among coming ten years. Major targets involve realtime monitoring, understanding and prediction of cloud clusters and intra-seasonal variations which govern the meteorology, natural disaster and climate variations over this region. The resolution of the Earth Observation Summit II (Tokyo, April 2004) and the recommendations of CSTP under the Japanese Government may support this new project.
