Dear research leaders

Measurement equipment for snow interception processes

Some of you have not heard of this before while others of you know that we
have been planning to apply for funding for equipment for measurement of
snow interception processes. To increase the chances of funding it would be
advantageous for us to be able to claim that not only Swedish but also
international research leaders are interested in that the application is
approved. The equipment is planned to be mobile and it should be possible
to load it into a caravan and a trailer. Initially the equipment is planned
to be used within the NOPEX and BALTEX frameworks.

The equipment application itself is unfortunately written in Swedish but an
application for funding of a PhD student that will work with the equipment
is written in English. There you can find more information about the planned
measurement equipment and the application is found on:

http://www.sb.luth.se/~alu/nfr.pdf

We are open for may forms of co-operation ranging from database exchange,
PhD student exchange, postdoctoral exchange fellowship to other researchers
actually operating the equipment for own applications.

We already have support from the following Swedish research leaders:

- Professor Lars Bengtsson, Water Resources Engineering, Lund University
- Professor Anders Lindroth, Physical geography, Lund university.
- Professor Per-Erik Jansson, Land and Water Resources, The Royal Institute
of Technology, KTH, Stockholm
- Professor Sten Bergstr嗄, Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological
Istitute, SMHI, Norrk嗔ing

and the following research leaders from countries outside Sweden have
expressed interest for participation in the project

- Dr Richard Harding, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (f d Institute of
Hydrology), - Wallingford, UK
- Professor John Pomeroy, Centre for Glaciology, University of Wales,
Aberystwyth (until January 2000 National Hydrology Research Institute,
Environment Canada, Saskatoon)

PS. We are planning to hand in the application September 15 and would
appreciate to hear from your before that. DS.
