Dear Sir / Madame,
We are pleased to bring it to your attention that the First International
Conference on Hydrology and Water Resources in Asia Pacific Region
(APHW2003) will be held on 13 to 15 March 2003 in Kyoto, Japan, by the Asia
Pacific Association of Hydrology and Water Resources.
The Asia Pacific Association of Hydrology and Water Resources will be
established in September 2002. The aims of the Association include,
inter-alia, promoting exchange of operational wisdom in water resources
management as well as research activities, within the framework relevant to
the geography and climate of the Asia Pacific region. This particular
mandate of the Association stems from the recognition that the present
approaches to address water related issues are based on the climate,
geography and geo-morphology of the Western Europe and the North America,
where most of the research activities on hydrology and water resources
management were initially carried out. As a consequence of this history,
many important thematic issues specific and important for the Asia Pacific
region are still not yet adequately addressed.
The APHW2003 International Conference, to be held on 13 to 15 March 2003 in
Kyoto, Japan, will serve as an arena to deal with these region-specific
thematic issues. The Conference, which will be the first international event
of the Association, will also contribute to the Third World Water Forum, to
be held on 16 to 23 March 2003 in Kyoto, Shiga and Osaka.

announcement and 'Call for Papers'. We would appreciate your participation
in the Conference and request your assistance in passing on this information
