International Symposium on Climate Change (ISCC)

31 March ~ 3 April, 2003, Beijing, China
Second Circular Call for Papers (Revised)

About the Symposium

Climate change is one of the key issues in the studies on earth environment.
Recently more and more attentions have been paid to this issue not only by
scientific circle, but also by many governments. Great efforts have been made to
deal with it by international community and state governments. A series of
programmes such as World Climate Programme (WCP), International Geosphere-Biosphere
Programme (IGBP) and International Human Dimensions Programme on Global
Environmental Change (IHDP) have been successively established.
As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Assessment Report
states, the global average surface temperature has increased over the 20th century
by 0.6°C 0.2°C, and the globally averaged surface temperature is projected to
increase by 1.4 to 5.8°C over the future 100 years. Climate change has already
affected the natural ecosystem and some portions of social system. Climate change
will make great impacts on agriculture, industry, forestry, water resources and the
coastal areas, as emphasized by the Global Change Open Science Conference that was
held in Amsterdam, Netherlands in July 2001.
The adaptation to climate change and its impacts may be a substantial challenge for
every country. It is an urgent mission for the scientific society to provide
reliable scientific insights with the purpose of adaptation and mitigation of
climate change. In order to present and exchange state of the art advances in the
studies on climate change, to facilitate the worldwide cooperation within the
community of climate change studies, the International Symposium on Climate Change
(ISCC) will be held on 31 March-3 April, 2003 in Beijing, China.

Symposium Topics (adjusted)

The following topics have been chosen for the symposium:

1.	Extreme Climate Events (Including Meso-scale Weather Events and Process)
and Their Association with Global Climate Change;
