The Third International Study Conference on GEWEX in Asia and GAME (GAME
Conference) will be held at Seogwipo KAL Hotel, located at the southern
part of Cheju Island, Korea for 26th - 28th March, 1997 at the same place
of the GAME International Science Panel (GAME-ISP) meeting which will be
held on March 24th and 25th, 1997.
Since the GAME Intensive Observation Period (GAME-IOP) is scheduled in
1998, the GAME Conference and GAME-ISP are very important to clarify the
scientific objectives, to harmonize various observations in various fields,
and to discuss details of the observations. These discussions are
indispensable for the success of the GAME.
We would like to expect big contributions to the GAME Conference.

Topics of the Conference:
- Energy and water cycles in Monsoon Asia
- Observational studies about regional water balance in Asia
- Utilization of satellite remote sensing technique for atmospheric, hydrologic and oceanographic processes in GEWEX/GAME
- Physical processes related to interannual variability of Asian monsoon: Ocean, snow, ice, permafrost and soil moisture
- Land-atmospheric interaction and the role of vegetation in hydrologic processes
- Macro-scale hydrological modeling, meso-scale atmospheric modeling and their coupling
- GCM studies and diagnostic studies of monsoon
- Seasonal prediction of rainfall and water resources in Monsoon Asia
- Major achievements made by pilot study of the GAME
- Scientific issues, collaborations and requirements for enhanced field
observation of GAME and other monsoon-related projects
Authors who wish to present a paper are kindly requested to submit an
abstract before 23rd December, 1996. Submission by facsimile or e-mail is
acceptable. One page comprehensive abstract in A4 or letter size paper
should be typed single spaced in English. The paper title, author(s),
complete name(s), their affiliation(s), full mailing address(es) must be
included. An original copy of each abstract should be sent to the
Conference Secretariat. Abstracts will be reviewed before they are
accepted. Further notification of acceptance will be sent to the authors.
A volume of abstracts will be ready at the conference. Proceedings will
also be published and be sent to all the participants after the conference.
The authors are encouraged to bring their four-page extended abstracts to
the conference.

- Deadline for the submission of abstract: 23rd December 1996,
- Acceptance notice: 17th, January 1997,
- Deadline for the early registration: 10th February, 1997.

Travel and passport:
The conference site is located in a beautiful spot in southern part of
Cheju. Some transportation from the Cheju Airport to the hotel will be
provided.
Attention:
It may take a long time as two months to obtain visa into Korea
for the participants from some countries. The participants who are worried
