Eastern Siberia is one of the widest permafrost regions in the world. It has been realized that permafrost plays an important role for the global climate change. Therefore, long-term monitoring of seasonal change of snowcover and depth of active layer are important because of their direct influences on water & heat transfer in land-atmosphere system.

The landscape of eastern Siberia is characterized by the "tundra" with scarce vegetation and the "taiga" with coniferous forest. In eastern Siberia, the taiga regions are divided by two regions, i.e., the "plain taiga" region and the "mountain taiga" region. The Lena river generates from mountain taiga and it goes to the tundra region through the plain taiga.

The GAME-Siberia sub-project team is concentrating on the observation of the land - atmosphere interaction at three regions of tundra, plain taiga, and mountain taiga. This home page is the introduction of our GAME-Siberia sub-project. Welcome !!
